Sales Management Degrees and Training Courses in Louisiana

by Rod Dunne on January 19, 2012

There are many sales management/manager training courses in Louisiana. Some of these courses are offered through the business departments at some of the state colleges while others are offered by private organizations who work with corporations or government entities.

When an individual enrolls in one of these sales manager training courses, they bolster their resumes and make themselves more attractive to prospective employers.

When a business owner signs-up their employees for one of the sales team training courses, they lower their costs and improve their sales closing ratios. Ultimately, this will increase their profits while lowering their bottom line.

Popular Training Programs & Degree Providers in Louisiana

There are at least two universities that offer sales management training courses in Louisiana.

  • Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge offers a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with an emphasis in Sales and Management.
  • Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans also offers a Bachelor of Science in Business, and students can opt to pursue a degree with a specialization in Sales and Marketing.

Students who do not wish to move to Baton Rouge or New Orleans can enroll in sales training courses online. The University of Phoenix offers students the chance to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Communication or Marketing and Sales Communication. The entire degree can be completed online from wherever the student lives. This option is ideal for people who cannot move or for people who cannot gain acceptance into one of the other universities.

There are also several options for employers who wish to enroll their sales teams in sales and marketing programs. The Dale Carnegie Training Institute which is headquartered in New York has offices in Louisiana. The information that is presented in these courses is based on the ideas that were first presented in the 1920s in Carnegie’s notorious book How to Make Friends and Influence People. It predominantly focuses on how to increase sales by mentally focusing on success.

Another organization that offers sales management courses in Louisiana is the Sandler Training Institute which is also known as the Sales Training Institute of Louisiana. This organization provides corporations with the resources that they need to develop their business. They focus on providing team members with training that helps them to get rid of poor attitudes and work on attitudes and beliefs that foster success. These skills are reinforced with long tem coaching and additional training. These courses can be conducted on site, or teams can travel to the organization’s own training facilities.

General Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for each of these courses vary. Employees who wish to take courses through the Sandler Training Institute or the Dale Carnegie Institute should speak with their employer. He or she can make the necessary arrangements to enroll their sales team in one of these courses. Some of these courses, however, can also be taken by individuals. The only prerequisites are a willingness to learn and a willingness to pay the course provider.

Students who wish to earn a bachelor’s degree from one of the mentioned universities should have a high school diploma. Older students may be able to enter one of these programs with a GED. High school students should also have good ACT or SAT scores. Ideally, they should have relevant courses on their high school transcripts. If their high schools offer any business courses, they should take them.

Expected Charges, Costs & Duration of Training Courses

People who wish to enroll in courses offered by private organizations will spend substantially less than those who enroll in courses that result in degrees. The courses offered by Carnegie and Sandler vary in duration and cost. For instance, one of the sales courses offered by Carnegie lasts for eight hours per week for three weeks and costs just under $1,700.

People who decide to pursue degrees in this field should expect to spend an average of four years in school, but they may find that it takes them longer to complete their course work if they have to work or raise a family at the same time. Louisiana State University students should expect to pay about $35,000 per year. This figure includes tuition, books, and living expenses. Much of these fees can be paid for with loans or grants. Xavier University is slightly cheaper than LSU. Students who attend the business school at Xavier should anticipate spending about $15,000 per year on tuition. They will also have to spend several thousands of dollars on books and general living expenses.

The University of Phoenix has different tuition schedules for different majors. However, students should plan to spend about $13,680 to $14,440 per year for tuition, fees and materials. This equates to a total cost of $68,400 to $72,200 over a five year period. However, students should be aware that this figure does not include the cost of living.

With so many sales & marketing management training courses in Louisiana, students should be able to find exactly the courses that they need. They can enroll in weekend seminars that will promise to boost their closing ratios and increase their salary potential.

Alternatively, if they are just starting their careers, they can enroll in a degree based program at a university. A degree in this field will make them more appealing to potential employers. These degrees are especially helpful if the student can combine them with real life experiences so that they have a multifaceted resume to offer employers.
